Boston University Women’s Ice Hockey (19-8-1, 16-4-1 HE) will face the University of Connecticut Huskies (17-9-2, 15-4-2 HE) at home on Friday.
The Terriers are returning to the ice following an intense 3-2 overtime win against Northeastern on Tuesday. The win was solidified by Alex Law’s game-winning goal with 30 seconds remaining in overtime.
“The bus was on fire… the girls were happy for [Law],” CoachTara Watchorn said.
BU’s goaltender Callie Shanahan played phenomenally in net. Her performance contributed to her .925 save average and 1.74 goals against average.
“At the end of the day, it always comes back to your net,” Watchorn said. “How do you not have confidence in front of [Shanahan], [with] how she was playing?”
The Huskies are likely to start senior Tia Chan in their net, who has a .941 save percentage and a 1.57 goals-against average.
BU has a 31-19-9 all-time record against UConn, with 16 wins at home. The last time these two teams met about a year ago, the Huskies took the win 1-0.
“I don’t love it,” Watchorn said of playing UConn for the first time this season. “UConn’s team is disciplined and structured and detailed, playing them at the end of the year probably isn’t as ideal…but that being said, we’re playing a really good opponent who’s in their home stretch and who’s ready to go and gonna give us their best going into playoffs.”
The Terriers are on a 5-game winning streak that began with sweeping Holy Cross in a weekend series in January.
“I haven’t even really put thought into the streak, to be honest,” Watchorn said. “I think we’ve realized we’ve put ourselves in a good spot…it’s more like the excitement of, okay, just how far can we take this?”
Puck drop is set for 6 p.m. Friday at Walter Brown Arena. Streaming will be available on ESPN+.
