Men’s Hockey: Terrier hockey returns after break with game set in New Haven
By Abigail Stocker
BU Men’s Hockey (9-6-1, 5-3-1 HE) returns to action on Sunday as they prepare to take on the Yale University Bulldogs (2-7-1, 2-3-1 ECAC) after a two-week break.
This game marks the Terrier’s last non-conference game before taking on Harvard in the Beanpot Tournament first round on Feb. 3.
BU and Yale met one year ago in New Haven, marking the first game between the two schools since Dec. 13, 2016. During their face-off at Yale, the Terriers took home a 6-1 win, with BU striking early in the first period, taking a two-goal lead just five minutes into the period.
The Terriers boast a 6-5-2 all-time record against the Bulldogs, with the bulk of those losses dating before 1930.
The No. 13 Terriers are coming off a 7-5 win against the U.S. Under-18 Team, with freshmen Alex Zetterberg and Kamil Bednarik recording three points apiece in the victory.
BU will be without four star players on Sunday as Cole Eiserman, Cole Hutson, Brandon Svoboda, and Tom Willander are all competing at the World Junior Championship.
Eiserman, Hockey East’s Rookie of the Month for October, is tied for second among NCAA rookies with nine goals and 15 points, while Cole Hutson leads all NCAA freshman defensemen with 14 points and 10 assists.
Svoboda has three goals in 11 games, including a two-goal game against Merrimack in November, and led the 2024 World Junior Summer Showcase with points 5 and four assists.
Yale has not played since the Bulldogs were swept during their series at LIU on November 29–30, extending their losing streak to three games.
The Bulldogs two victories this season were against Colgate on Nov. 9 (4-3) and St. Lawrence on Nov. 22 (5-1), making their record 0-4-0 at home.
The Terriers will return home for a weekend series with Vermont on Jan. 10-11 at Agganis Arena for a Hockey East matchup.
Puck drop is set for 4 p.m. ET on Dec. 29 in New Haven. Streaming will be available on ESPN+.
