No. 13 Boston University women’s ice hockey (10-5-1, 8-2-1 Hockey East) fell 8-1 to Princeton (6-5-0, 3-5-0 ECAC) on Wednesday afternoon at Agganis Arena. The Tigers opened the scoring midway through the first period and built a 2-0 lead by the 12:01 mark. Despite strong penalty-killing efforts early, BU struggled to contain Princeton in the second, allowing three goals, including two on the power play, to fall behind 5-0. Freshman Kaileigh Quigg scored BU’s lone goal off a rebound at 3:04 in the third, assisted by Ani FitzGerald and Julia Shaunessy. However, Princeton answered with three more goals, including another power-play tally, to seal the win.
BU outshot Princeton 45-32 and won 38 faceoffs to Princeton’s 25 but couldn’t capitalize on special teams, going 0-for-1 on the power play while Princeton went 3-for-5. Senior goaltender Callie Shanahan made 24 saves for BU, while Princeton’s Jennifer Olnowich was stellar with a career-high 44 saves.
