Boston University Women’s Basketball (2-2, 0-0 PL) will take on the Georgetown University Hoyas (2-3, 0-0 BEC) on Wednesday, Nov. 27 at noon ET at Case Gym in Boston. The Terriers are looking to secure their third win overall and continue the home-court dominance that has characterized the early part of their season.

Out of their five games played, all of BU’s wins have come in Case Gym; they beat Northeastern University in their season opener, Emmanuel College in an exhibition game, and the University of Maine last thursday. Their two losses have both been on the road: The University of Connecticut gave them a thorough beatdown in Hartford, and their most recent loss came in Durham by way of the University of New Hampshire.

Freshman forward Allison Schwertner will be a key player if the Terriers continue their home win streak against Georgetown. She was the Terriers’ leading scorer in their recent win over Maine, dropping an efficient 21 points along with eight rebounds. Seasoned guard Alex Giannaros, who is averaging 16 points and nine assists per game this season, was also a major contributor in the win, adding 20 points of her own to go with six assists and three rebounds.

The Georgetown Hoyas primarily rely on their ball-handlers to generate their scoring, but their bigs can’t be overlooked either. Georgetown starts four guards alongside their senior center, Ariel Jenkins. In Georgetown’s most recent game, a loss to Florida Gulf Coast University, Jenkins led all players in two stats: she netted 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds, both game-highs. The Hoyas’ four starting guards combined for an additional 41 points in the loss.

The matchup between Schwertner and Jenkins will prove a major feature of Wednesday’s game. The emerging BU freshman has proved herself time and time again on the offensive side of the ball, but the defensive assignment of guarding the Georgetown senior in the post will be a true test.

BU’s junior forward Anete Adler will also help supplement Schwertner’s efforts in the paint. The tallest player on the team, Adler made her season debut against New Hampshire and has tallied nine points, seven rebounds, and three blocks over the two games she has played. If the Terriers are firing on all cylinders, it means that Adler will be getting a lot of reps throughout the rest of the season.

Wednesday’s matchup is only the second time these two programs have ever faced off. On December 2nd 1983, the Terriers beat Georgetown 71-66 in a game played in New Rochelle, New York. Over four decades later, BU is hoping for a similar result.

For the Hoyas, this game represents an opportunity to get back on track after an underwhelming start to the 2024-25 season. For the Terriers, the game marks a chance to extend their home win streak and protect their house against every opponent who comes to visit. The action begins at 12 p.m. on Nov. 27, and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
