Boston University Women’s Basketball (2-1, 0-0 PL) will travel to Durham, N.H. to face off against the New Hampshire Wildcats (3-1, 0-0 AE) on Saturday, November 16.
The Terriers have won the last five games in the series against UNH, with two of those five being away games. The last time the two teams saw each other BU secured a 56-47 win at Case Gym, and New Hampshire ended their 2023-24 season with a 9-20 record.
Heading into this week’s game, BU is sporting momentum coming off a 71-38 win against the Emmanuel Saints. The Terriers shot 50 percent from the field, including a 58.1 percent clip in the final 20 minutes.
Not too far off and with a similar drive, UNH is also heading into Saturday’s game with a recent win of their own, defeating Northeastern 58-31 on Thursday. UNH guard Eva DeChent recorded 10 points in the result and currently leads the team in overall points (52). DeChent will most likely serve as a major offensive contributor ahead of this week’s game.
For BU, senior guard Alex Giannaros–who recently became the 27th Terrier to hit the 1,000-point mark–currently leads the team in points (36), shooting 48.1 percent from the field.
Saturday’s game may also mark another milestone for Giannaros as she remains two three-pointers away from taking sixth place on BU’s 3-point record list.
Freshman standout Allison Schwertner will pose as a significant obstacle for New Hampshire defensively as the 6-foot-3 forward leads the team in both steals (four) and rebounds (12).
Sophomore guard Aoibhe Gormley sits second in rebounds (10) as well as points (15), and currently leads the team in assists (nine), placing her in the same category of Giannaros as being a playmaker offensively.
For the Wildcats, it’s forward Clara Gomez who stands out defensively, currently leading the team in rebounds with 26. Averaging 8.7 rebounds a game, Gomez will most likely be the main contender in this game’s battle of the boards, which may be crucial in second-chance shots that could potentially sway the game significantly.
The Terriers’ performance against New Hampshire will ultimately be an important one as the team looks to create more milestones and as both teams look to build on their respective wins.
The game will take place at Lundholm Gym with tipoff set for 1 p.m. and streaming available on ESPN+.
