Boston University Women’s Ice Hockey (9-3-0, 7-1-0 HEA) continues their 8-game winning streak after a 5-1 win against Merrimack College (4-5-0, 2-4-0 HEA) at Lawler Rink.

“It was a good team win,” assistant coach Megan Myers said. “They handled it great getting the puck deep and going to work.”

BU started the first period strong, keeping the pressure on Merrimack’s defense.

The Terriers continued their dominant power play, capitalizing just over halfway through the first frame. Sydney Healey scored a goal off of a pass from Christina Vote to take a 1-0 lead, extending BU’s lead in power-play goals in the Hockey East conference.

“We all really believe in each other on that power play,” Healey said. “I think it’s showing on the ice that we all trust each other with the puck.”

Clara Yuhn continued the offensive drive, getting her 6th goal of the season after another pass toward the slot from Vote. Warrior goalie Margaux Favre could not cover the five-hole on time, making the score 2-0.

The Terriers kept the puck on the offensive, keeping the pressure on Merrimack.

At the end of the first, Yuhn snapped another goal off an assist from Vote, burying the puck in the back of the net for her second of the night and giving BU a cushiony 3-0 heading into the second frame.

“She has the skill, she has the ability… “Myers said. “We feel like she’s been doing that and I think you see it in her game that she looks like she’s having a blast out there.”

Merrimack opted for a goaltender change at the beginning of the second, putting Calli Hogarth in for Favre.

The Warriors responded in the middle frame, but Terrier goaltender Callie Shanahan remained solid in net, blocking the shots that came her way.

BU responded and put pucks toward the net, but Hogarth’s saves and the Warrior’s defense held up to the pressure, ending the second period without a change to the scoreboard.

In the third, Healey extended the Terriers lead to 4-0 after winning a puck battle on the wall. She was able to keep control of the puck going far side past the blocker, burying the puck into the net for her second of the night.

“She’s getting better and better every game that we’ve played,” Myers said about Healey. “So it’s been cool to see her produce and set up her teammates.”

Merrimack had some life left as Sage Babey got the Warriors on the board and earned herself her second goal of the year after a setup from Chloe Goofers.

Undeterred by the goal scored, Neely Nicholson put a finishing touch on the game, scoring a goal with just over two minutes remaining to secure the 5-1 win.

“If we keep the same mentality, we’re gonna win hockey games and do our job, I think we’re gonna be all set,” Myers said.

BU will host Merrimack on Friday, Nov. 8, for the second half of the weekend series. Puck drop is set for 3 p.m., with streaming available on ESPN+.
