The No. 9 Boston University Men’s Hockey Terriers (4-3-0, 1-0-0 HEA) will face the No. 17 University of Massachusetts Lowell River Hawks (5-1-0, 1-0-0 HEA) in a home-and-home Hockey East weekend series starting at Agganis Arena on Friday, Nov. 8.
The Terriers will look to bounce back after being swept in their two-game set at home against the No. 8 University of Michigan Wolverines last weekend.
BU currently holds a three-game win streak against UMass Lowell, including a sweep of their home-and-home series last season. The Terriers lead the all-time matchup 49-28-10.
The Terriers are looking to find their game after having lost three of their last four matches.
“I think right now it’s still a feeling out process for some of our guys and what they need to do to help the team,” coach Jay Pandolfo said. “I think the guys are starting to figure that out a little bit.”
Freshman forward Cole Eiserman looks to maintain his three-game point streak (1G, 2A), getting on the scoresheet in both games against Michigan after being named the Hockey East Rookie of the Month for October.
Another freshman standout has been Alex Zetterberg, who potted a goal and netted an assist during the team’s second game against the Wolverines.
Mathieu Caron will likely be starting in goal for the Terriers and looking to rebound from his recent struggles, giving up nine goals during BU’s last two-game weekend set.
He will have to look out for Owen Cole, who leads the River Hawks with eight points and scored to help lead the team’s comeback against Holy Cross last Friday. Another threat will be freshman Chris Delaney, who leads the team with five goals in six games played thus far.
Starting in net for UMass Lowell will likely be grad student Henry Welsch, who has maintained a .919 save percentage and a 1.85 goals-against average in four starts this season.
The Terriers are hoping to play a consistent game against a River Hawks team that has won five in a row after dropping their first game of the season.
“It’s a work in progress,” Pandolfo said. “It’s something we have to continue to work on…as a staff and as players.”
The Terriers and River Hawks will drop the puck at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, followed by the second game at Tsongas Arena in Lowell, Mass., on Saturday, Nov. 9. Both games will be available to stream on ESPN+.
