Boston University Women’s Basketball starts the 2024-25 basketball season at home against their cross-town rivals in the Northeastern Huskies on Monday, Nov. 4.
The two teams faced off once last season in a game that ended with a Terrier win in overtime at their rival’s home. The game ended 83 – 80; Caitlin Weimar’s 26 points and Anastasiia Semenova’s 18 points with 4 3-point shots made were the key performances that led the Terriers to victory.
The two teams’ head-to-head record against each other is balanced with Terriers having a slight edge over Northeastern, leading 42-39. However, in the last 10 years the Huskies are the dominant team in this matchup winning the last seven of 10 matches.
Senior guard and first captain of the team Alex Giannaros will be under the spotlight most out of the team this season. Giannaros was the second highest scorer of the team last year with 14.2 points per game and enters the 2024-25 season with Preseason All-Patriot League honors.
The Terriers should hope to get a similar performance from their second captain and junior forward Anastasiia Sementova, who led the points second in last year’s game against Huskies.
For Northeastern, the three leading players in points per game last season are not on this year’s roster, and the team needs new players to carry the scoring load.
Graduate student guard Maddie Vizza is the first candidate, as she was third in most points among the team last season. Sophomore guard Yirsy Queliz who recorded 6.0 points and 2.1 assists per game in the 2023-24 season will also be one of Huskies’ threats in this matchup..
Monday’s game will take place at 4.30 p.m at Boston University’s Case Gymnasium with streaming available on ESPN +.
