Field Hockey: Terriers look for Patriot League win against American University

By Riley Lackey

Boston University Field Hockey (5-5, 2-1 PL) is heading to Washington, D.C, to take on the American University Eagles (6-5, 2-0 PL) this Friday at 2:00 p.m.

The Terriers look to get back into the win column after splitting their weekend series with a win against Holy Cross and a loss to the No. 9 Harvard Crimson.

Natalie Epperson stood out this week as she scored her first three goals as a Terrier in the last two games. Epperson scored with just minutes to play, making the final score 2-1 Harvard after a hard-fought battle with the Crimson.

Goalkeeper Kate Thomason had a nine-save game on Sunday, improving her save percentage to .736, her best save percentage so far.

The Eagles are coming off a conference win against Colgate on Saturday and are looking to add another win to their three-game streak. AU currently stands in first place in the Patriot League.

Eagles forward Jordan Reicher will be a player to watch as she leads AU with six goals and two assists.

Thomason is expected to make her 10th start of the season and will likely face off against goalkeeper Bryn Underwood. Underwood has been a standout in net for the Eagles this season and has earned Patriot League’s Goalkeeper of the Week twice thus far. The Terrier offense will have to work overtime to beat her 0.778 save percentage.

Heading into Friday’s game, both teams are looking for their third Patriot League win.

Payton Anderson has been dominant for BU this season, leading the team with seven goals, and will be an offensive player to watch this game. She stands third in the Patriot League for goals and shots on goal.

This Patriot League matchup projects to be exciting. BU has a 13-6 record against AU dating back to Sep. 5, 1997. The outcome has alternated the last few years, but after a 2-0 loss last year, the Terriers look to come out with a win.

The game will be played on Friday, Oct. 11, at s Jacobs Recreational Complex. The contest will be available to stream on ESPN+.
