Field Hockey: Terriers search for another PL win against Holy Cross

By: Hannah Connors

After their first Patriot League victory, Boston University Field Hockey (4-4, 1-1 PL) will take on the College of Holy Cross Crusaders (4-5, 0-2 PL) at home this Friday.

The Terriers look to carry on the momentum from their recent win against Lehigh University to improve their record. Goalkeeper Kate Thomason had an exceptional game, securing BU’s second shutout of the season.

Terrier senior midfielder Payton Anderson is a player to watch in the upcoming matchup. Anderson remains an offensive weapon, with 12 points in her last four games. Anderson also leads the team with shots on goals, scoring on her 25th and 26th shot attempts in her previous match.

After suffering a 5-1 loss against Bucknell University last Saturday, the Crusaders will undoubtedly enter this match motivated for their first Patriot League conference win.

Holy Cross will look to rely on their strong defensive players like junior Megan Schienbein to block Anderson’s influx of shot attempts.

In goal, Thomason is expected to make her sixth start of the season and will likely face freshman goalkeeper Mia McCloskey. McCloskey has averaged a 0.753 save percentage, so BU will need to ensure strong offensive possession to secure a victory.

Recently named Patriot League Rookie of the Week, midfielder Addison Jay will also be a player to watch after recording her first assist as a Terrier in last week’s game against The Mountain Hawks.

For the Crusaders, the team will look towards offensive players who shined last season. Graduate student forward Sarah Potter will be a player to watch as she totaled 23 points and earned All-Patriot League Second Team honors for the ’23-’24 season.

The Patriot League contest will be played on Oct. 4th at Boston University’s New Balance Field at 3:00 pm. The matchup will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
