Boston University Women’s Soccer (0-6-2) fell to the University of Rhode Island Rams (3-3-2) by a final scoreline of 3-2.

Going into the game, BU hoped to secure a win after a streak of losses and ties.

The Rams started off strong in the first half and consistently pressured the Terrier defense.

This momentum led to the first goal of the match being scored by forward Lauren MacDonald in the 11th minute.

Despite the Terriers being scored on early in the first half, they kept up their play and offense. The Terriers had multiple chances within the first half, however, they weren’t able to capitalize on these.

After more pressure from the Rams, the Terriers let in another goal scored once again by forward Lauren MacDonald in the 15th minute, putting URI up 2-0.

After more intense play, the Terriers’ pressure in the Rams’ box led to a foul drawn by forward Morgan Fagan, earning the Terriers a penalty kick.

Captain of the Terriers and forward Guilianna Gianino stepped up to take the penalty. After shooting it to the left of the goalie, she scored, halving the deficit to 2-1 in the 22nd minute.

With the Rams now pushing even harder, they continued to pressure the Terrier defense, which eventually led to a goal by midfielder Courtney Poon in the 32nd minute.

With play slowing down, the Terriers went into halftime down by a scoreline of 3-1.

“I think we gave them opportunities to get in the game,” said BU head coach Casey Brown.

However, the Terriers came back into the second half strong on both defense and offense after a pep talk from Coach Brown.

This led to a Terrier goal scored by forward Margy Porta in the 47th minute.

With the Rams trying to keep their lead, they drew a foul outside the Terrier box in the 50th minute but were unable to score.

With play continuing back and forth between the Rams and the Terriers, the Terriers had multiple chances to score to tie the game.

The intense play led to two more yellow cards in the game; one to forward Tierra Garniss in the 79th minute and the other to midfielder Emma Kirkpatrick in the 85th minute.

With the clock ticking down, the Terriers were unable to score another goal, leading to another loss and a final scoreline of 3-2.

“Honestly, I thought our attack was pretty good today, it’s just unfortunate the goals that we conceded,” said Brown.

The Terriers will face the Loyola Greyhounds next on September 21st at 12 p.m. in Baltimore to open Patriot League play.
