After wrapping up a hard-fought but successful series against Merrimack, Boston University women’s hockey (4-2-1, 3-2-0 HEA) will attempt to extend their four-game win streak and three-game Hockey East win streak against the University of New Hampshire Wildcats(5-6-1, 3-4-1 HEA).
Coming into this weekend’s home-and-home series, BU has a commanding historical edge over UNH. Their record is 37-18-6, with BU tallying its most recent victory against the Wildcats the last time these two teams met. That game, on Jan. 21, 2023, ended with a final score of 3-1.
As of recently, the Terriers are on a hot streak, and so are some of their key players, namely senior forward Lacey Martin. Martin recorded her first career hat trick last weekend, extending her goal tally for the season to six. Her three-goal performance against Merrimack earned her the title of Hockey East Co-Player of the Week (an honor she shared with University of Maine’s graduate forward Ann-Frederique Guay). Martin is currently tied for the most points on the team with sophomore forward Clara Yuhn who has one goal and six assists on the year.
“Hockey East is wide open,” Martin said in an interview with The Boston Globe this week. “It is really exciting. Every single game we play is going to be a really good game.”
The Wildcats lost their last matchup 1-0 to the Providence College Friars, but despite their lack of scoring in that game, junior forward Kira Juodikis still packs a powerful offensive punch. She currently leads UNH in points with nine. That being said, she has not recorded a point in the last three games, and it will be imperative that the Terriers prevent her from heating back up and getting on the board this weekend.
Puck drop for Friday’s game, which is Military Appreciation Night, will take place at 6 p.m. in Walter Brown Arena. Saturday’s contest will be an afternoon matchup at 3 p.m. in Durham, NH.
