Boston University Women’s Hockey head coach Brian Durocher will retire at the end of the 2022-23 season after 18 years as head coach of the Terriers.
Durocher was named the first head coach of the BU Women’s Hockey team on June 3, 2004, as they moved from a club team to a varsity squad.
Durocher’s 336 wins as coach ranks as the 10th-most victories in Division I women’s hockey.
Durocher was recognized in 2008 with Coach of the Year honors from Hockey East and the New England Hockey Writers Association, leading BU to the Hockey East semifinals in just their third season as a varsity club.
Under Durocher’s watch, the Terriers have two Hockey East regular season championships (2011, 2013), five Hockey East tournament championships (2010, 2012-15), six NCAA tournament appearances (2010-2015), and two appearances in the NCAA championship game (2011, 2013).
A co-captain of the 1978 men’s national champions, Durocher currently ranks seventh all-time in winning percentage among Terrier goaltenders.
Durocher’s retirement comes after a total of 45 years as a coach for between the men’s and women’s ice hockey teams.
Durocher’s final regular season games will take place on Feb. 15 and 16, a home-and-home against No. 5/6 Northeastern.
After his retirement, Durocher will become the Special Assistant to the Director of Athletics for BU.
