Gallery: Women’s Hockey stumbles, swept by Maine
The Boston University women’s hockey team (6-12-0, 5-9-0 HE) suffered their fourth straight loss Saturday afternoon, as they fell to the University of Maine (11-10-0, 8-6-0 HE) by a score of 3-2.
A shorthanded goal halfway through the first period got the Black Bears on the board first, as UMaine’s Mira Seregely got free on a breakaway to send the puck past BU’s Callie Shanahan. The Black Bears were almost able to notch a second shorthanded goal on the same penalty kill, but Shanahan made a key save to keep the Terriers in the game.
BU forward Madison Cardaci stole the puck behind the net and snuck it past goaltender Jorden Mattison to finally get BU on the board, with the Terriers having gone 205:26 without scoring a goal in gameplay.
Another goal from Julia Nearis in the third period put the Terriers within striking distance, but they were unable to capitalize.
