Women’s Basketball: Terriers sweep key honors in Patriot League preseason polling

The Boston University women’s basketball team swept a host of preseason Patriot League honors this on Thursday as the team was named the consensus favorite for the upcoming season. Sydney Johnson was honored as the Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year, and Maren Durant was chosen as Patriot League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
The Terriers finished second in the regular season standings last year but fell to fourth-ranked Lehigh in the Patriot League Championship to deny them a place in the NCAA Tournament.
Senior guard Johnson enters the 2022-23 campaign after leading the conference in points per game last year with 15.7. The Georgia native also led the team last year with 96 total assists and 50 assists. Johnson is going into her senior year with 846 career points, 223 assists, and 212 rebounds.
Standing at 6-foot-three, senior forward Durant enters the year as the Preseason Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year. Durant ranked third last season in the Patriot League in both total blocks with 52 and blocks per game with 1.7. The Massachusetts native earned All-Defensive Team honors as well as Third-Team All-Patriot League honors last season.
The Terriers earned 16 first-place votes for preseason number one, with the next-best teams, Lehigh and Holy Cross, each earning 2.
BU will face off against cross-town rival Northeastern at home at Case Gym on November 7th at 4:30 P.M. to kick off the season.
