Women’s Lacrosse: Terriers dominated by No. 1 Boston College
By Joe Eachus
In the 28th edition of the Battle of Comm. Ave., the Boston University women’s lacrosse team dropped their match with the No. 1 ranked Boston College Eagles on Saturday, 22-6.
The loss marked the 12th straight for the Terriers when matched up against BC. BU has not won a game against the Eagles since 2009.
The Terriers fall to 0-2 on the season, while the defending NCAA champion Eagles move to 3-0.
BU’s efforts were led by junior attack Jen Barry, who scored two goals. Freshman midfielder Abby Cotraro also scored her first collegiate goal in the losing effort.
For the Eagles, senior attack Jenn Medjid scored 5 goals and added an assist to lead all players in scoring, and reigning Tewaaraton Award winner, graduate attack Charlotte North, added four goals of her own.
Boston College got off to a hot start, scoring just thirteen seconds into the game on sophomore midfielder Belle Smith’s unassisted goal. BU junior attack Lauren Kaye would answer back with a goal to tie the game at 1-1, but BC went on to score eight straight goals before the end of the first quarter.
Sophomore midfielder Cassie Reinertson scored before the first frame ended, but BC would continue their deluge on a 10-0 run through halftime to chase sophomore goalie Reilly Agres. Senior Kennady Smith would replace her in net.
Though BU would manage a small 3-0 run in the third, it was not nearly enough to overcome the BC offense.
BC was dominant on both sides of the field, taking 41 shots to BU’s 14, 20 draw controls to 12, and earning 13 free-position shots to three for the Terriers.
BU next takes the field on Wednesday at Fairfield to take on the 2-1 Stags. Opening draw is scheduled for 3 p.m.
