Women’s Hockey: Terriers set for rematch with Huskies on the road
By Stevie Potter
The Boston University Terriers (9-8-4, 8-4-3 HE) will face off against the No. 3 Northeastern University Huskies (20-2-1, 15-2-1 HE) today for the second time this week, this time at Matthews Arena.
The two teams battled it out last Saturday, Jan. 15 at Walter Brown Arena with the Huskies coming out on top with a score of 3-1 against a shorthanded Terrier group. Lacey Martin notched her second tally of the season and was BU’s only goal scorer in the contest. The game took place after an almost two-week layoff for the Terriers after Battle at the ‘Burgh.
Historically, the Terriers seem to be evenly matched against the Huskies, but recent stats tell a different story. BU’s all-time record against Northeastern is 32-24-9 and is 1-1-0 on the 2021-2022 season. However, the Terriers have not won since December 4, 2021, and are on a four-game losing streak. The Huskies on the other hand have not lost a game in regulation since October 9, 2021, and sport an 18-0-1 record since that date. Northeastern’s only official tie in that period of time came against the Providence Friars on November 6, 2021, where the Huskies would eventually take the unofficial win in a shootout.
The Terriers have a daunting task in front of them today as they must attempt to put a stop to the steamrolling Huskies’ team and their unofficial 19 game win streak. It is likely that senior goaltender Kate Stuart will get the start, as she has started both of the previous two games against Northeastern this season. She is 4-6-4 with a .924 save percentage and 2.18 goals-against average.
Offensively, the Terriers are led into battle by senior forward Courtney Correia, their leader in points, who has earned herself 20 points so far this season (10g, 10a). Hopefully, Martin’s newfound goal-scoring confidence will come in handy against Northeastern. Every goal will count today, as these two teams historically play close games.
The Huskies have been paced by senior forward and Swiss Olympian Alina Mueller, who has 27 points (8g, 19a) in 15 games on the year. Senior defender Skylar Fontaine (4g, 22a), and senior forwards Maureen Murphy (13g, 13a) and Chloe Aurard (13g, 13a) each have 26 points.
Senior goaltender Aerin Frankel is 16-1-1 with a .966 save percentage and 0.84 GAA.
This matchup will be BU’s only game of the weekend. Puck drop will be at 4 p.m.
