Women’s Hockey: Midweek clash against No. 7 Yale awaits Terriers before break

By Sasha Abrams

After a weekend sweep against Merrimack College, Boston University women’s ice hockey team (9-5-3, 8-4-3 HE) will return to face No. 7 Yale University (9-3-1, 5-2-1 ECAC) tonight at Ingalls Rink for their last game before winter break.

The Terriers, now on a three-game win streak, claimed their first overtime win of the season on Friday night, before finishing the weekend at home with a 4-1 win against the Warriors.

Over the last 11 games, BU has gone 40-for-42 (95.2 percent) on the penalty kill and has let up only five power play goals over the entire season, now 49-for-54 (90.7 percent).

Hitting the back of the net in each of the games last weekend, senior forward Courtney Correia now has a team-high of nine goals, and also leads the team with 18 points. Senior forward MacKenna Parker scored her sixth goal of the season on Saturday night, placing her second for goals and third for assists (10) and points (13).

The Terriers and Bulldogs haven’t met since Nov.12, 2019, when BU seized a home win. Tonight will be the first time the Bulldogs host BU since Dec. 7, 2017. This will only be BU’s eighth matchup with Yale, holding a 5-1-1 record against the Bulldogs.

Yale is on an impressive run, only losing to one opponent in their last nine games. The Bulldogs fell to No. 5 Quinnipiac in their second most recent game on Nov. 26. They then redeemed themselves against Sacred Heart the next day, giving them over a week’s break since their last match.

Bulldogs’ junior Claire Dalton is tied for first in points with 22 (7g, 15a) with sophomore Elle Hartje (6g, 16a). Junior Emma Seitz leads the team in goals with nine to give her a total of 16 points along with her seven assists.

The goaltenders for Yale rotate between senior Gianna Meloni and freshman Pia Dukaric. Meloni has played the most minutes between the two, with three shutouts under her belt and a .942 save percentage. Dukaric is coming in with a .913 save percentage and one shutout win.

BU is also rotating between two strong netminders, with senior Kate Stuart posting a .927 save percentage and freshman Callie Shanahan posting a .942 save percentage, making over 30 saves in each of her last two games. Each goaltender allowed just one goal in their most recent start.

The Terriers will travel to New Haven, Conn., for their semester closer. The puck is set to drop at Ingalls Rink at 7 p.m.
