Women’s Hockey: Parker, Terriers find offense in 3-1 win over Holy Cross
By Patrick Donnelly
Senior forward Mackenna Parker scored two goals as the Boston University Terriers (6-4-3, 5-3-3 HE) won 2-1 against the Holy Cross Crusaders (2-11-0, 1-8-0 HE) at Walter Brown Arena on Friday.
“It took a while. but we finally got one [goal] and it led to two and three,” BU head coach Brian Durocher said. “It’s another one of those games that probably ages you a little bit… We finally got the lid to go off the net. Nothing better to give you confidence than to see a couple go in.”
Sophomore forward Catherine Foulem scored the game-winner. Courtney Correia, Emma Wuthrich, Julia Nearis, Andi Calderone and Ellie Larson each had assists. Freshman goaltender Callie Shanahan made 26 saves. The Terriers were 2-for-5 on the power play, while holding the Crusaders scoreless on three opportunities.
“We got the goaltending. [Shanahan] did a real nice job in net,” Durocher said. “The penalty killers were sharp. All the way through they did a nice job.”
Junior forward Darci Johal scored her second goal in as many games for Holy Cross. Freshman defender Emilie Fortunato had her third assist in two games, and sophomore forward Lily Feeney also had an assist. Sophomore goaltender Madison Beck made 25 saves.
Johal scored on a 2-on-1 with Feeney at 12:06 of the first period, finishing a forehand-backhand move on Shanahan.

The second period saw BU dominate possession and attacking zone time, but neither the Terriers, nor the Crusaders broke through.
“I thought in the second period, we really started to assert ourselves on the forecheck and get some opportunities,” Durocher said. “I didn’t think we made the goalie have to make as many saves as we had attempted shots, but [Beck] was there when she had to be.”
Parker scored on the power play for BU at 2:57 of the third. Correia won the face-off back to Larson at the point, and Beck saved Larson’s shot from distance. But Parker was first to the rebound in the crease.

Foulem scored on the power play at 6:00, shooting low, blocker side on Beck.
“Both [power play goals] had similarities in that there was a player there screening [Beck],” Durocher said.

Parker added insurance with an empty-net goal at 19:29.
BU senior captain Kaleigh Donnelly exited the game early with injury after blocking a shot with her hand in the third period. Durocher said the injury does not immediately seem worrisome.
“The first look is not too, too bad in the eyes of the trainer, but it’s early,” Durocher said. “Nobody’s taken any x-rays or had the time to see if it’s going to swell up or not. Hopefully she’s okay. It was a courageous move.”
The Terriers will return to action on Friday, Nov. 19, on the road against the Maine Black Bears at 6 p.m. at Alfond Arena in Orono, M.E. They will return to Walter Brown Arena on Sunday, Nov. 20, for a 3 p.m. Battle of Comm. Ave matchup with Boston College.
