Women’s Hockey: Compher named to Team USA for Rivalry Series

HARTFORD – Junior forward Jesse Compher of the Boston University women’s hockey team was one of 23 skaters named to Team USA’s roster for the first two games of its Rivalry Series with Canada, USA Hockey announce Friday afternoon.

Compher and redshirt senior captain Sammy Davis were invited to USA Hockey’s women’s winter training camp, which took place this week at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn., beginning on Monday and ending on Friday.

“Every time you put on that jersey, it’s an unbelievable feeling,” Compher said ahead of training camp. “So, I’m excited to get back out there with those girls.”

After returning from an injury that saw her miss the first nine games of the season, Compher has 13 points in eight games, including a five-game point streak with 12 points (6g, 6a) in that span.

Last spring, Compher won gold with the U.S. at the 2019 IIHF Women’s World Championship, notching an assist in five games. As a sophomore in the 2018-19 campaign, the Northbrook, Ill., native recorded 17-44-61 totals, leading Hockey East and ranking third nationally, which was enough to be named a second team All-American and earn a unanimous selection as a Hockey East First Team All-Star.

Former Terriers Victoria Bach and Marie-Philip Poulin were named to Team Canada’s roster and will participate in the series as well.

The first game of the Rivalry Series will be held Saturday night at 7:00 pm at the XL Center and can be seen on NBC Sports Network. The second game will take place in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, on Tuesday Dec. 17.
