Men’s Hockey: Terriers set to begin ’19-’20 Hockey East season tonight vs UMass Lowell

After a 7-3 win against Union and an 0-1-1 series vs Northern Michigan, the Boston University Terriers (1-1-1) head to UMass Lowell to open the 2019-2020 Hockey East season against the River Hawks (3-2-1).

The Terrier’s season has gotten off to a white-hot start offensively with the team averaging 4.7 goals per game. Leading the charge have been three returning faces to the team each with five points on the young season.

Senior captain Patrick Curry has scored four goals along with an assist and senior assistant captain Patrick Harper and junior forward David Farrance have each racked up two goals and three assists.

Beyond these three, BU has gotten points from 13 other players and goals from five others. For Coach Albie O’Connell, who’s in his second season as head coach, his team has been scoring over two more goals per game than last season. Most notably, freshmen Trevor Zegras and Robert Mastrosimone have earned seven total points in their first three games as Terriers.

For the River Hawks, after starting the season off 3-0, they’ve gone 0-2-1 in their last three games. They may be scoring way fewer goals per game, 2.5 to BU’s 4.7, but they’re also allowing only 1.7 goals to opponents while BU has allowed 3.7. In similar fashion to BU, Umass Lowell has received 19 points from four of their freshmen players, Matt Brown, Carl Berglund, Andre Lee and Zach Kaiser, over the team’s first six games.

These two teams are off to very different looking starts to their seasons, BU with a great offensive start and UMass Lowell with a great defensive start, but both will look to start off in-conference play on the right foot and that will depend on which team’s strength comes out on top tonight.
