Women’s Hockey: Terriers seek first in-conference win Friday vs. UCONN

After taking a 4-2 loss at UNH last weekend, the Boston University Terriers (1-1-1, 0-1-1 WHEA) will head to the University of Connecticut to face the Huskies (3-1-0, 1-1-0 WHEA).

After going 2-1-0 against the Huskies last season, the Terriers will look to start off this season’s series on the right note and collect their first win against a conference opponent.

Head coach Brian Durocher and his squad know how important this game and this whole weekend, where the Terriers will also play their division rival University of Maine, will be for both the long and short term.

“We’ve got to get some new names on that scoresheet,” Durocher said. The Terrier offense has not gelled yet this season with BU being held to 2 goals in each of their first three games. “UCONN has always been an extremely well-coached team . . . they’re a strong team, and they’re a tough team,” said Durocher. “UCONN is going to keep you in a close, tight-knit game.”

Junior goalie Corrine Schroeder will likely get the start in net for Friday’s contest against the Huskies. Coach Durocher also added that sophomore forward Emma Wuthrich will be available to play in this game, giving BU more depth on offense heading into tonight.

One player the Terriers will still be playing without is first-line forward Jesse Compher. The junior has not played yet this season and Durocher is adamant that he wants his staff to “make sure they do it right,” when it comes to Compher’s recovery.

This is a big weekend for the Terriers, who will play two conference rivals, as they try to gain ground in a stacked Women’s Hockey East this season.

“[It’s] really important to get points in the league… play a more thorough game,” Durocher said. He added that “playing hard all the way through, playing smart, [and] doing the little things better” will be key to his team putting up “a good bounceback” tonight at UCONN.
