Softball: Terriers head to Harvard for midweek contest
By: Allie Debe
Boston University Softball heads to Harvard Thursday coming off their 2-1 series win against Lehigh this weekend.
The Terriers, now 20-16 overall and 5-1 in Patriot League play, have a successful history against the Crimson (12-14). BU holds a 25-14 edge in the all-time series and won their last matchup in 2015.
Harvard is coming out of a 3-game weekend home series against Columbia, in which they also came out on top 2-1. All three games were high scoring, the first game ending in the 5th in a 14-1 mercy rule in favor of the Crimson, the second in a 10-9 loss, and the last game on Sunday ending 9-1 in another 5th-inning mercy rule win.
In both of Harvard’s wins, the team was able to get going offensively early on in the game, bringing home multiple runs in just the first inning.
The Crimson boast 5 players batting .300 or better with freshman Trina Hoang leading the team with a .333 average.
With a stacked lineup, the Terriers are going to have to smother any momentum Harvard tries to pick up early in the game. BU’s going to be looking for a knockout performance from their pitchers, limiting the number of walks and runners on base especially early on in the matchup.
BU’s had trouble scoring early in games. The Terriers will rely on seniors Emily Morrow, who leads the team with a .318 batting average, and Alex Heinen, who holds the all-time RBI record for the Terriers, to fuel their offense.
