Softball: Terriers take series with Lehigh

By: Allie Debe

This weekend, Boston University Softball headed to Pennsylvania for a 3-game series against Lehigh and came out on top 2-1.

The Terriers won 2-0 in an 8-inning shutout for the first game of the series with Ali DuBois in the circle. Senior Madi Killebrew hit a single to load the bases in the 8th inning, and sophomore Marina Sylvestri, hit by a pitch on a 1-1 count, brought in an RBI to put BU on the board. Freshman Nicole Amodio, also hit by a pitch, brought in another RBI to follow up.

BU finished Saturday’s double-header with another 2-0 shutout win, leaving the Mountain Hawks scoreless twice in one day against the Terriers for the first time since the 1996 NCAA Play-In Round. Freshman Emily Gant started off in the circle in her first Patriot League away game and pitched through the 6th inning, but after giving up two consecutive singles to Lehigh, Dubois came in to pitch the remainder. In the bottom of the seventh, DuBois was able to salvage the shutout with a force at third for her first career save.

Offensively, the Terriers were also able to get on the board early this game with senior Alex Heinen hitting in a run off a triple to right-center field in the top of the third to make it 1-0. Kipfmiller followed with another RBI in the top of the sixth, which ended up being the last run of the game and propelled the Terriers into Sunday with a bit of confidence.

However on Sunday, the Terriers couldn’t get the ball rolling, falling to the Mountain Hawks 1-0 to finish out the series.

Now 20-16 overall, 5-1 in conference play, BU Softball will head to Harvard next Tuesday to face the Crimson (12-4, 6-3) in Cambridge.
