Levinsky’s Patriot League women’s basketball postseason awards
By: Greg Levinsky
The chase for an NCAA appearance is on, as the 10 teams in the Patriot League battle for a coveted conference tournament title and subsequent appearance in the “Big Dance.” Before the madness starts, it’s time to deliver my postseason awards. The honor mimic those bestowed by the league office, but with my own selections.
Player of the Year:
Madison Hovren, Army
Not selected to the preseason All-League team, the 5-foot-11 senior responded by leading the league in scoring and rebounding at 19.0 points and 12.9 rebounds per game She should be en route to her second career All-League first team selection as well.
Defensive Player of the Year:
Natalie Kucowski, Lafayette
The league’s top shot blocker by a landslide (2.4 BPG), Kucowski also averaged 1.4 steals per game. She was third in the league in defensive rebounding per game. Kucowski had 12 games with three or more blocked shots and as many multi-steal efforts.

Rookie of the Year:
Jennifer Coleman, Navy
The only freshman to average double digit scoring at 13.3 points per game, the 5-foot-8 guard led her team in points, rebounds (8.4 RPG), assists (2.9 APG) and was second in steals (1.8 APG). She helped keep Navy relevant despite losing their top three scorers from last year.
Coach of the Year:
Marisa Moseley, Boston University
She inherited a team that was picked to finish second to last in the league. Instead, the Terriers finished in the top four of the league for the first time in their Patriot League history in their finest performance as a member of the conference since joining the league in the 2013-14 academic year.
