Men’s Lacrosse: Terriers take down Dartmouth in home opener

Led by Timmy Ley, the Terriers thrashed Dartmouth for three quarters en route to a 15-8 victory over the Big Green on Saturday in the home opener at Nickerson Field.
The Terriers came out of the gate ready to win. Just six seconds into the game, freshman attacker Timmy Ley opened the scoring for BU and set the tone for the rest of the game.
The Terriers scored 12 goals in first half alone, including five from Ley, three of which coming in the first quarter. In addition to the goals, the Terriers completely shut down the Dartmouth offense, not allowing a single goal and scoring six of their own in the first frame of the game.
Sophomore Chris Gray led the way for the Terriers in the second quarter with three goals as part of another six goal period for BU. However, the Dartmouth offense finally started to show signs of life by scoring six goals of their own with two apiece from Matt Paul and Harlan Smart.
In the second half, both teams settled into a defensive struggle as the Terriers completely shut down any life the Dartmouth offense had. During the third period, BU allowed just one goal but also only scored one of their own to keep the difference at six heading into the final frame.
With the lead secured, the Terriers ended the game with another dominant defensive period. They allowed just one goal while adding two of their own to put the game out of reach and start off the home schedule with a win.
On the stat sheet the Terriers completely dominated Dartmouth. BU more than doubled Dartmouth’s shots on goal by a margin of 26 to 12. Then when it came to faceoffs, the Terriers dominated the Big Green 18-8, including the opening faceoff of the game that led to Ley’s opening goal.
On Saturday, Gray and senior James Burr continued their hot starts to the season. Through three games, Burr leads the team in goals with 11, including three on Saturday, with Gray in second with seven of his own. Ley vaulted his way to third in goals on the team with six goals after his five goal performance against the Big Green.
To round out the scoring on Saturday, senior Brandon Homire scored his first two goals of the season while freshman Jack Collins tallied his fourth and sophomore Michael Dixie scored his first.
The Terriers have a couple days of rest before they head down to Connecticut to take on Sacred Heart on Tuesday afternoon.
