Women’s Hockey: Terriers to host Holy Cross on Saturday at Walter Brown Arena
Fresh off of a Beanpot semifinal victory over No. 3 Northeastern, the No. 8 Boston University Terriers (15-6-7, 12-5-5 WHEA) will play host to the Hockey East newcomer Holy Cross Crusaders (1-25-3, 1-21-1 WHEA) this Saturday at Walter Brown Arena.
In two prior meetings this season, the Terriers have gone 2-0 against the Crusaders, defeating them 4-1 and 7-1 back in early January.
The Terriers are coming off a thrilling victory against Northeastern to advance to the Women’s Beanpot Championship and are unbeaten in their last 9 games while for the Crusaders, in what has been a season full of struggles, it’s currently a 7-game losing streak and a 12-game winless streak.
For BU, the deadly duo of Jesse Compher and Sammy Davis have now both reached the 40-point mark on the season (48 for Compher and 40 for Davis), and junior defender Abby Cook has also now reached the 20-point mark for the season for the second time in her career.
For the Crusaders, who have had a difficult time scoring all year, their leading scorer, junior Rachel Moore, has only 13 points on the season (6G, 7A) and only 2 other players have reached the 10-point mark this season.
To further the stark contrast between these two teams seasons, Crusader goalies have allowed an average of 4.26 goals per game, while BU goalies have averaged just 1.86 goals allowed per game. Unfortunately for the Crusaders, this season has been a combination of shaky goaltending and struggling offense while making the transition to Hockey East and Division-1.
The key for the Terriers will be to treat this game like any other and make the best use of all of the red-hot weapons on the team, while also not overworking too much so as to stay 100% ready for the Beanpot Championship vs Harvard coming up next Tuesday.
