Women’s Hockey: No. 8 Terriers look to continue unbeaten streak against Vermont
By: Patrick Donnelly
The No. 8 Boston University Terriers (14-6-6, 11-5-5 WHEA) will travel to Gutterson Fieldhouse to take on the struggling University of Vermont Catamounts (7-16-4, 5-13-2 WHEA) on Friday night.
The Terriers remain unbeaten over their last seven games after tying the Merrimack College Warriors in the second game of a home-and-home matchup last weekend, ending BU’s six-game winning streak.
After earning the ranking of No. 10 in the nation last week, the Terrier’s continued strong play over the weekend was enough to push them up to eighth in the nation as they and No. 7 Boston College leapfrogged No. 9 Ohio State and No. 10 Colgate.
Red-shirt junior Sammy Davis and junior Deziray De Sousa both come into the matchup riding three-game point streaks (3G, 3A and 1G, 3A, respectively), while junior Abby Cook holds a four-game scoring streak (1G, 3A).
The most impressive streak belongs to sophomore Jesse Compher, who has been on fire of late with a seven-game point streak (2G, 9A). Compher ranks second in the nation in assists-per-game with 1.15 and fourth in points-per-game with 1.65.
While Brian Durocher’s Terriers have been high-flying, Jim Plumer’s Catamounts have been in a downward spiral, having dropped four-straight, all to Hockey East Opponents. In total, Vermont has lost six of eight games since Christmas.
After some scoring woes early in the season, BU’s offense has exploded recently, scoring a whopping total of 32 goals over the course of their seven-game unbeaten streak.
They keys for Boston will be being able to continue the scoring that has taken the team’s game to an entirely new level lately, coupled with the same effort and intensity they’ve shown over the last seven games.
The action kicks off on Friday night at 7:00PM as the Terriers look to come out with a strong effort to continue the unbeaten streak and take them into next Tuesday’s matchup against Northeastern in the 41st Women’s Beanpot on a positive note.
