Men’s Hockey: Terriers shine in exhibition against Acadia

24903082308_6f6fcca790_oBOSTON- Head Coach Albie O’Connell came out victorious in his preseason debut against the Acadia Axemen. The head coach of the Terriers put his entire roster on display Saturday night, and just about everybody preformed in the 7-1 win.

Thirteen different Terriers recorded a point in the win, including seven different goal scorers in the effort.

The Terriers scored twice in the first four minutes of the first period and seemingly never let up. The number eight ranked team in the country played just like it on the penalty kill, giving the Axemen six opportunities and killing five of them.

Four new faces netted goals for the Terriers: graduate transfer Max Willman, and three freshmen Matthew Quercia, Joel Farabee and Jake Wise. Both Farabee and Wise accompanied their goal with an assist, playing big minutes down the stretch.

Junior goaltender Jake Oettinger looked sharp in the two periods he played. He held the Axemen scoreless saving all 13 shots he faced through 40 minutes. All three Terrier goaltenders made an appearance in the contest.

Redshirt junior Max Prawdzik allowed the team’s only goal but made nine saves, and junior Nico Lynch also made an appearance saving the only shot he faced in the game’s final few minutes.

“All in all it was a good game. We didn’t really find our game until the second period when we played 5 on 5. It was a good effort for the first exhibition game,” said O’Connell postgame.

“We’ve got some speed,” he added. “We’re going to be able to play four lines, and we’re going to be able to wear teams down with our speed.”

The Terriers will have a full week of practice before beginning their regular season on Friday, Oct. 12 when the team travels to No. 10 Minnesota State for two games.
