Field Hockey: No. 24 Ohio State downs No. 19 Terriers

BOSTON – Boston University head coach Sally Starr cited a 20 second stretch as the Terriers downfall on Monday in a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Ohio State University at New Balance Field.

The Terriers (2-2) allowed a tally at 53:20 and another at 53:40 to see a tie game morph into a two goal deficit at the hands of the Buckeyes (2-2).

“I really think it was a lapse where they scored those two quick goals after the water break,” Starr said. “They came out ready to go. We were on our heels a little bit.”

Sophomore Ailsa Connolly scored her team leading third and fourth goals of the year, and the Terriers took a 2-1 lead just under 15 minutes into the second half.

Ohio State’s Casey Cole scored her second of the afternoon to tie it less than a minute later, and Sammy Stone and Jessica Hourihane added their back-to-back scores to take the lead and then double it.

“We were just making some mental mistakes,” Starr said. “We just have to learn from it and get better.”

The Terriers will take the road for their next four contests, including stops in both Ohio and Maryland before returning to New Balance Field.

“It’s September 3rd, we just have to grow from these games and keep working hard,” Starr said.
