Dylan Haines Finishes Up First Professional Campaign

2017 Boston University graduate Dylan Haines played his last game of the 2017-18 season, marking his first year in the professional ranks.

The 7-foot center has called Lugano, Switzerland, his home since last September, playing professional basketball for the Lugano Tigers of the Ligue Nationale de Basket B.

Haines averaged 13.2 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.2 blocks and 1.1 steals per game in playing out his one-year contract.

“It was a great learning experience for me, being my first season overseas,” Haines said. “Unfortunately, as a team, we experienced a bunch of injuries, with me being one of them towards the end. Everyone stayed together though, and the guys were easy on me with the language barrier. They even taught me some words.”

He shot a remarkable 37.8 percent from distance (22-of-58) and played a team-high 30.8 minutes per contest.

Haines appeared in 74 career games for the Terriers, averaging a career-best 3.1 points and 2.7 rebounds per game during his junior season in 2015-16. Haines is one of three graduates from last year’s class playing professionally. Justin Alston is in Germany and Eric Fanning is in Hungary.

Haines added, “It was a fun experience and it flew by. I got here in September and I’m already heading home.”
