BREAKING: Katy Steding Out as Women’s Basketball Head Coach
By: Greg Levinsky
Katy Steding will not be returning as head coach of the Boston University women’s basketball program, according to a statement released today by Boston University Athletics. Under Steding’s guidance, the program went a combined 31-88 (.352) over four seasons.
The release included a statement from Director of Athletics Drew Marrochello.
“We would like to thank Katy and her staff for their dedication to our student-athletes and athletic department.” Marrochello said. “The expectations for our women’s basketball program are high, and after a thorough review we have concluded that a change in leadership is necessary at this time. We wish Katy nothing but the best in her future endeavors.”
A national search for the program’s newest coach is apparently already underway.
Of Steding’s staff, only assistant coach Jenny Thigpin will remain with the program according to the Athletics Department. Former associate head coach Cindy Blodgett and assistant coach Ben Chase will not be retained by the program. Thigpin, a standout player at both Fresno State and Arizona State, will begin her third season with the Terriers next fall.
