Blend of Talent Bodes Well for Men’s Lacrosse in Win Over Dartmouth

When the first four-year graduating class of the Boston University Men’s Lacrosse team departed this past May, it would have been understandable for the Terriers to take some time to adjust to a revamped roster.

Instead, BU looks to be a major threat in the Patriot League. The Terriers (2-1) ousted Dartmouth College (1-1) 10-4 on Tuesday night at Nickerson Field.

“I was really happy with coming out, we were almost perfect in the first half,” said Boston University Men’s Lacrosse Head Coach Ryan Polley.

Sophomore netminder Joe McSorley looked like a seasoned veteran in the third game of the 2018 slate. After struggling at times against Providence and Ohio State, the first-year starter amassed 11 saves in a career-best performance.

McSorley has stepped in to fill the void left by 2017 Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year Christian Carson-Banister who was one of 17 graduating seniors last May. The Forest Hill, Maryland native appears more comfortable with every save he makes.

“Certainly Joe was excellent,” Polley said. “He made all the saves that we needed him to make and then he made a couple spectacular ones.”

Freshman Chris Gray has impressed, earning three goals and a pair of assists in Tuesday’s win and he leads the Terriers in points (12), assists (6) and is second on the team in goals (6).

Junior James Burr and senior Jack Wilson corralled two goals apiece on Tuesday night and seniors Hayden Ruiz, Ryan Hilburn and junior Brendan Homire each added a goal.

After Wilson’s pair, Dartmouth freshman Matt Paul scored with 4:19 left in the first quarter. From there, BU blitzed a 7-0 run extending to 8:07 left in regulation to put the game out of reach.

“We kinda kept at it and got the goals that we needed to in the fourth quarter,” Polley said.
