Men’s Lacrosse: No. 20 Terriers Open Road Slate at No. 7 Ohio State

The 20th ranked Terriers travel to Columbus, Ohio to take on seventh ranked Ohio State University.

Both the Terriers and Buckeyes earned wins in their 2018 openers. The Terriers outlasted Providence College 13-12 in overtime thanks to a game-winning goal by sophomore John MacLean. Freshman Chris Gray had two goals and three assists in his collegiate debut while MacLean netted a career-high four goals.

Seniors Ryan Hilburn, Hayden Ruiz, Jack Wilson and junior James Burr all recorded multiple points for the Terriers.

“It was really exciting to see the kind of the team and balance we have – I think we’re a hard team to prepare for,” Boston University Men’s Lacrosse Head Coach Ryan Polley said after the first game. “At any moment we can have one of eight guys kind of go off.”

Sophomores Chase Levesque and Joe McSorley each garnered Patriot League weekly awards. Levesque earned the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week and McSorley was named Goalkeeper of the week.

Levesque starred on close defense and midfield, scooping up a career-high six ground balls and three caused turnovers. McSorley made seven of his 12 saves in the second half and picked up five ground balls.

“It was a huge roller coaster of a game,” McSorley said after the Providence game. “The defense was great.”

The 2017 national runner-up Buckeyes ousted Cleveland State 13-6 last Saturday in Cleveland. Senior captain John Kelly scored four goals and sophomore Tre Leclaire added a hat trick.  Senior Hank Bethke added two goals in the rout.

“We just have to play the team game,” Polley said. “If we can get stops and get face-offs it will give the offense the opportunity to score.”
