Terriers Skate to Tie with Huskies

BOSTON — In a Hockey East showdown that took overtime to find a result, the Terriers gained a point in the conference standings. The point came well earned for Coach Brian Durocher’s Terriers as senior forward Victoria Bach scored a goal with three seconds remaining in the third period to force overtime.

Bach shined in the contest, notching her fourth hat trick of the season, adding to her team lead in goals with 28 on the season. The assistant captain scored a goal in each of the frames. Her first coming at the 12:18 mark of the first. The goal was assisted by the captain Rebecca Leslie and Breanna Scarpaci. Bach’s middle goal was scored unassisted at 7:06 in the second period.

Bach’s final goal came with the net empty. Coach Durocher sent Jesse Compher on to the ice as an extra attacker to play with the first line. With little time to spare, Leslie took the puck from behind Northeastern goaltender Aerin Frankel’s net and found Compher in the right faceoff circle. Compher took a wrist shot that rebounded off of Frankel and trickled through a set of Huskies defenders finding Bach on the opposite side of the crease. Bach whacked the puck home to tie the game, then turned and celebrated hard.

Bach wasn’t the only standout in the game. Freshmen goaltender Corinne Schroeder made 37 saves. Schroeder was busy for a full 65 minutes of play, stopping more than 10 shots in all 3 regulation periods. The defense once again stood tough in front of Schroeder all night, blocking a total of 19 shots.

The team will have a few days of practice before traveling to Storrs, Conn. for another Hockey East matchup with the UConn Huskies.
