Men’s Soccer: Terriers Drop Finale to Colgate, Loyola Wins Regular Season Title

BOSTON — The Boston University men’s soccer team concluded their astounding Patriot League regular season campaign on a bad note. With a chance to win the regular season championship, the Terriers fell, 4-0, to the Colgate Raiders Friday evening at Nickerson Field.

If the Terriers won the match, they could have a celebrated a league title Friday night. But now, they will have to travel to Maryland as the Loyola Greyhounds captured the Patriot League title with their win on Saturday. BU finishes in second place in the conference, securing them a first-round bye.

The Terriers outscored opponents 14-3 en route to a 6-1-1 Patriot League record, but allowed more goals to Colgate then they had to all other league teams. Goalie Michael Bernardi allowed four goals in 53 minutes before being pulled for William Bonnelyche.

Colgate opened the scoring just three minutes into the game when Christian Clarke gathered a loose ball in the box and sent a shot past Bernardi. They would add two more goals on direct shots in the first half.

BU out shot Colgate 17-15, and had more corner kicks at a 7-5 clip, but could not climb out of the early deficit.
