BROOKLINE- The Boston University men’s soccer team completed its non-conference schedule with a 1-1 draw vs. Northeastern University Tuesday evening at Parsons Field.
Sophomore forward Matt McDonnell continued his stellar play when he put the Terriers on the board in the first half with a goal in the 37th minute.
McDonnell won the ball against two defenders before knifing through two others and flipping the ball over Huskies keeper Noah Abrams.
The goal was McDonnell’s fourth of the season and third in his last four games.
BU was not able to hold on to the lead in the second half, however, as the struggling Huskies picked up their offensive attack.
Northeastern registered eight shots in the second frame compared to BU’s three.
Freshman Dan Munch found the equalizer for the home team in the 78th minute when he fired a shot from the right side past Terrier keeper Bjorn Kammholz to knot the match at one apiece.
Kammholz, a senior, made his first start of the season.
Terrier junior Nicki Wiener’s nearly won the game for BU in overtime but he had two shot attempts go wide of the net and another one saved by Abrams.
BU earned its second tie of the season in as many overtime games while Northeastern moved their overtime record to 2-2-3.
The Terriers are now 5-7-2 (4-1 Patriot League) and the Huskies are 2-10-3.
BU finished non-conference play with a record of 1-6-2.
BU will delve back into Patriot League play Saturday afternoon when they welcome the Navy Midshipmen to Nickerson Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
