Men’s Basketball: Terriers Add Two More So. Cal players to 2018 Recruiting Class

It was quite the Monday night for Joe Jones and his staff, as BU landed two more verbal commitments for the 2018 recruiting class.
At 10:34 p.m., forward Fletcher Tynen from Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance, Cali., announced via Twitter that he had committed to Boston University.
Thirty-one minutes at 11:05 p.m., 3-star power forward Jordan Guest from nearby Santa Margarita, Cali., took to Twitter to announce his commitment to BU.
Tynen and Guest join fellow Southern California native Garrett Pascoe, who committed in August, as the three Terriers apart of the 2018 recruiting class to date.
Here’s a quick breakdown on Monday night’s commits, who are set to join the team as incoming freshman next fall.
Fletcher Tynen, Bishop Montgomery High School, SF, 6-5, 190 pounds, 2-star recruit.
Tynen is a versatile swingman with a high basketball IQ, who has played his high school ball for So. Cal powerhouse Bishop Montgomery.
Devin Ugland of PrepHoops.com said Tynen is “one of the most underrated and versatile high school basketball players in all of Southern California.”
According to Ugland, Tynen has stood out on the defensive end.
A key player on a Bishop Montgomery team that won the CIF State Championship a season ago, Tynen guarded 5-star players Marvin Bagley, Bol Bol and Jordan Brown during the playoff run.
Tynen told Ugland that BU likes how versatile he is. He also noted that Jones and his staff see growth and potential in his game.
Ugland mentioned that Tynen is underrated because of his unselfishness.
“Tynen is considered by some as one of the most under-appreciated players in the area because of his willingness to do the dirty work, while staying away from the flashy plays,” he said on PrepHoops.com.
Tynen is certainly a raw prospect, but one who could grow and develop into an all-conference player once he arrives on a college campus.
Jordan Guest, Santa Margarita Catholic High School, PF, 6-9, 235 pounds. 3-star recruit
Guest, a more highly-touted recruit, is ranked as the 24th best player in the state of California.
Ugland called him “highly skilled” as he shined for Santa Margarita last winter.
Guest possesses a strong frame for a high school senior. He has advanced post work but can also stretch the floor and shoot the three.
When Guest committed to BU shortly after Tynen, Ugland tweeted that “Boston University strikes again.”
The Terriers have made their presence known in a basketball hot-bed like Southern California.
BU currently has zero players from So. Cal on the roster, but the 2018 class is all of a sudden straight out of Hollywood.
