Terriers Earn Wholesale Victory Over Lafayette

EASTON, PA — One would be extremely hard-pressed to prove that things could have gone better for the Boston University women’s soccer team on Sunday afternoon.
The Terriers, playing in their fourth Patriot League match of the season, conquered Lafayette, 3-0, on the road. Not only did BU shut out the Leopards, but they did not even allow them a single shot.
Scoring started in the 16th minute, when midfielder Jesse Shreck launched a rocket of a shot from 30 yards out into the top right corner. The senior and co-captain has now scored in two straight matches against Lafayette. The goal was assisted by McKenna Doyle, who also scored in BU’s previous match against the hosts.
Anna Heilferty then doubled the Terriers’ lead six minutes later when she received a centering free kick from Shreck, which she volleyed home into the bottom right corner. Shannon Keefe made it three inside the last ten minutes of the match when she slotted home from an acute angle, rounding off the dominant BU victory.
The Terriers had 24 shots with 14 on target, forcing 11 saves from Lafayette goalkeepers Maggie Pohl and Kelly O’Brien. They earned 10 corner kicks while allowing the Leopards none. Nine of BU’s players recorded shots, with eight of those nine having at least one shot on goal. Similar to the match against American, the Terriers’ total control of play allowed coach Nancy Feldman to explore her bench options – as a result, 20 different players made appearances for the visitors.
The result brings the Terriers to 5-5-3 on the season, with a conference record of 3-0-1, and marks their first road win of the season. They have now shut out opponents in five straight matches, with four wins and one draw. Lafayette falls to 3-5-2 with their second home loss of the season.
Next Up: The Terriers will face their most difficult challenge to date when they stay on the road to take on league-leader Navy. The match will take place next Saturday at 8 P.M.
