Men’s Soccer: BU looks for Two Straight Wins with Match vs. Princeton

BOSTON — After securing their first goal and win of the 2017 season Saturday vs. Harvard, Boston University men’s soccer will look to carry its momentum into Tuesday when another Ivy League opponent, Princeton, comes to Nickerson Field.

The Terriers dispatched the Crimson Saturday night thanks to a goal by senior Adam Sheikhali in the 43rd minute. The goal was Sheikhali’s first since October 2015; he earned Patriot League Defender of the Week honors in large part due to the game-winning goal.

On the other end of the pitch, the BU defense continued it’s strong play, allowing just two shots on goal.

William Bonnelyche played his fourth consecutive game in net and appears to have the starting goalkeeper position locked up for now.

The win improved BU’s record to 1-5 overall, and although the victory was a step in the right direction, head coach Neil Roberts noted his young team still has a long way to go.

“We’re not where we want to be yet,” Roberts said. “We’re a young team trying to get better. But the win vs. Harvard was a good sign of battle and fight.”

The Terriers could continue to trend in the right direction with a win over Princeton on Tuesday, especially with their first Patriot League game coming Saturday vs. American.

Princeton comes into Tuesday’s match at 0-3-1. The Tigers tied their first match of the season against No. 8 Syracuse, but have since lost three straight including a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Patriot League member Colgate.

Last year, Princeton knocked off BU, 2-1. The two teams are meeting for the fourth consecutive year, with the Tigers owning a 2-0-1 over those three matches.

Kickoff Tuesday is scheduled for 4 p.m followed by the BU women’s game at 7 p.m. vs. Dartmouth. Both games can be seen live on the Patriot League Network.
