Terriers to Take on American University in First Patriot League Fixture of Season

BOSTON, MA  –  After a long stretch of nonconference play, spanning eight matches over the course of four weeks, the BU women’s soccer team (1-5-2) will return to their favorite stomping grounds on Saturday afternoon—the Patriot League.

A return to regional competition may come as a relief for Nancy Feldman’s Terriers, considering they have spent the last month trekking across the U.S. to take on such far-off opponents as Louisville, Cincinnati, and Arizona State. 

The Terriers have also enjoyed overwhelming success in the Patriot League since joining in 2013, winning 31 of 36 conference matches, as well as four regular season championships, and three tournaments. With that rate of success, BU will be eager to begin conference play.
As if the odds weren’t already in BU’s favor, their opponents have had little to celebrate this season. American University (1-7-0) arrives in Boston carrying a five-match losing streak, as well as a predicament not unlike that of BU men’s soccer this year—the Eagles have yet to score a goal since a 2-1 win against Virginia Military Institute in August. Furthermore, the Terriers are undefeated against American over five meetings, and have outscored them 9-1.

The Terriers will be led by goalkeeper Hannah Ciolek, who has been terrific between the posts this season, along with her fellow seniors Christina Wakefield (1 goal, 1 assist), Erin Neville (1 assist), and Jesse Shrek (1 goal). Kickoff will be at 1 P.M.
