Men’s Lacrosse: BU Loses Heartbreaker to Army
By: Marisa Ingemi
The Boston University Terriers held a lead with under three minutes to play against #6 Army but ultimately fell 11-10 to their conference rival.
The Terriers led by two goals at one point in the second half but couldn’t hold on, an fell to 2-3 in their past five contests. BU now has three conference loses and has lost back to back games for the first time this season.
Jack Wilson scored four times and had an assist for the Terriers while goalie Christian Carson-Banister made 16 saves, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Black Knights, led by Tewaaraton candidate Cole Johnson.
Wilson’s fourth goal came with five minutes left in the game but the Knights scored twice in 50 seconds with two minutes remaining, and turnovers prevented the Terriers from tallying again.
Ryan Hillburn appeared to have a late goal, but was called for a crease violation. The last shot of the game went high over the net and Army was closest to the ball, and the game ended.
BU turned the ball over just 12 times in a tight affair, but four turnovers in the fourth quarter were all vital for Army’s victory. The Terriers had an opportunity to expand on a 10-9 lead and turned the ball over, leading to the Knights’ game tying goal.
Johnson scored twice with two assists for Army while Conor Glancy also put up the same numbers. Sophomore goalie AJ Barretto made eight saves.
James Burr had two goals while single tallies came from Hayden Ruiz, John MacLean, Pat Myers, and Cal Dearth.
One highlight was a goal from Burr with one second left in the first half when he scored on a deep pass from Carson-Banister to take a 5-4 lead.
The Terriers proved they could play with a top tier team like Army, and continue to face the class of the conference next week when they host Tewaaraton favorite Pat Spencer and the Loyola Greyhounds.
