Men’s Lacrosse: BU Holds Hartford Down in 12-5 Victory

For the second straight season, Boston University has started 3-0.

But this season, something feels different.

On Saturday the Terriers took down the Hartford University Hawks 12-5, tying a program record for fewest goals allowed in a game. Cal Dearth scored a career-high five goals as the senior continues his hot start to the season.

BU has controlled the past two games, including the 18-8 win over UMass Lowell last week, after squeaking by Providence in overtime to start the season. The tone of which the Terriers have opened the year is one of determination, which echoes the sentiments of the team after missing the Patriot League tournament for the past two seasons.

Senior goalie Christian Carson-Banister had another stellar outing with 12 saves. Heading into the contest, he was fourth in the nation in goals against average.

Joe Stucky continued his strong tenure at the faceoff dot, winning eight out of 10 first half faceoffs against Dylan Protesto, last season’s top faceoff specialist in the nation. Sam Talkow remained out after being a game time decision.

The Terriers were able to stop last season’s leading scorer Dylan Jinks of the Hawks, who put up a zero on Saturday afternoon. Defender Dominick Calisto stayed on the sophomore and prevented him from generating space.

Freshman John MacLean eclipsed four points for the first time in his young career. Junior Chad Bell scored a goal, and now has five points over his past two games as he gets more involved on BU’s second midfield line.

Other goal scorers on the afternoon include Brendan Homire, Jack Wilson, Pat Myers, and Ryan Hillburn.

The Hawks’ goal scorers were Griffin Feiner, Jaedon Henderson, Alec Brown, Justin Huggins, and Doug Biondi. Their goalie Evan Quinn made ten saves and allowed 12 tallies.

The Terriers went 16-for-17 in clears, a far cry from last season where they struggled to push the ball up field against the Hawks in their contest and Hartford was able to move the ball at will.

BU’s next challenge will be at Navy on Saturday to close out their four game road trip to open the season before a Tuesday night contest at Nickerson Field against Bryant. The Terriers remain the only undefeated team in the Patriot League after Bucknell’s loss on Saturday.
