Men’s Basketball: Terriers Look to Keep Win-Streak Alive Against Loyola

By: Dan Shulman

The Boston University Terriers men’s basketball team will try to make it five wins out of six in the Patriot League when the Loyola Maryland Greyhounds visit Case Gymnasium on Saturday.

After starting off 5-0 in league play, Loyola became the first team to give BU a blemish in the conference. On January 16, Loyola knocked off the Terriers, 77-69, in a hard-fought battle in Baltimore.

Eric Fanning played 35 minutes for the Terriers that night, scoring 27 points. But his efforts were no match for Loyola’s Andre Walker, who put up a game-high 35 points in the victory.

BU has righted the ship since the Loyola defeat set off a three-game slide. Most recently, the Terriers toppled American, holding on for a  67-64 win. Senior Justin Alston chipped in 21 points for BU on the night.

Loyola is coming off a nail-biting loss to Navy on Wednesday in Annapolis, 62-59. Jarred Jones scored a game-high 20 points for the Greyhounds, but Loyola couldn’t muster enough depth scoring to top Navy.

When the Terriers take the floor on Saturday, they’ll need to be strong defensively in order to stop dual-threat scorers Walker and Jones, each averaging 15.1 PPG. BU will also need to be keen of deep-shooter Andrew Kostecka who is 40.7% from beyond the arc.

Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and can be heard live on mixlr.com/wtbusports.
