Men’s Basketball: BU Aims to Snap Skid Against Army
By: Matt Doherty
Looking to snap a three-game losing streak, Boston University will host Army West Point Wednesday night at Case Gym.
After starting league play at 5-0, the Terriers have struggled as of late dropping their last three games to Loyola, Colgate, and Bucknell. Those losses are mainly accountable to their shooting struggles. BU has scored 69, 58, and 59 points in the losing skid, well below their season average of 73 points. The Terriers have also struggled mightily from behind the arc.
Two of those losses though came on the road, and on Wednesday, they return to the friendly confines of Case Gym, where they are 8-2 on the season.
Their opponent, the Black Knights, have struggled on the road to a tune of 2-6. Overall, Army is 8-12, (2-6 PL) in an expected down year after graduating five senior starters and losing head coach Zach Spiker.
However, this is a team that knows how to score the ball as they love to play at a fast pace. Army averages 75 ppg, good for second in the league. They have also attempted the most three-pointers and lead the PL in rebounding. It’s their defense that has caused them problems, allowing over 73 ppg.
It’s an extremely balanced offensive attack for a young Black Knight team that has six players averaging between 7-13 ppg, with Jordan Fox leading the way at 12.2 ppg.
Expect an up and down track meet, tonight at Case Gym with both teams loving to push the ball. Whoever makes enough stops and clamps down on defense when it matters the most will come away with a key victory as we enter the halfway point of league play.
It will be important for the Terriers to break out of their scoring slump and get back to scoring the ball from both inside and out.
Tip-off from Case Gym is scheduled for 7 pm and can be heard live on mixlr/wtbusports.
