Women’s Hockey: Terriers Wrap-Up Season Series in Connecticut

By: Dan Shulman

The Boston University Terriers women’s ice hockey team will head to Storrs, Connecticut on Tuesday to do battle with the UConn Huskies for the final time in the regular season.

BU is fresh off a 1-1 tie against arch-rivals Boston College in Chestnut Hill on Saturday. The Terriers got on the board midway through the second period when Nina Rodgers fired home a shot past BC goalie Katie Burt.

The Eagles answered early in the third period on the power play with a goal from Kristyn Capizzano. Both Burt and BU net-minder Victoria Hanson stood tall and preserved a valuable league point for both sides.

UConn started the second half on the wrong note, falling at Merrimack, 3-2. The Warriors killed off a penalty with 15 seconds remaining and rushed up ice to grab the game-winner with less than four seconds left in regulation.

The Terriers and Huskies have split the season series this year, with both road teams earning a victory. The last meeting ended in favor of the Huskies at Walter Brown Arena, 2-1, on December 3.

The Huskies are led by junior Leah Lum whose 18 points in 20 games leads the team. In net for the Huskies will likely be Annie Belanger. The junior boasts a .940 SV% and a 1.92 GAA in 18 games.

BU will look for second half production from Mary Parker. The grad student has 17 goals in 21 contests but has been dormant over the last two games for BU. Goaltending continues to be a question mark but it appears as if Victoria Hanson will be getting most of the minutes if her stellar play continues.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
