Men’s Lacrosse: Two All Americans, Another Commit

With the 2017 regular season now just over a month away, the Boston University men’s lacrosse team is starting to pick up accolades. Inside Lacrosse named BU midfielder Cal Dearth and face-off specialist Sam Talkow pre season All-Americans in their annual Faceoff issue.

Talkow and Dearth are both projected to be the first two BU players to enter the pro ranks after this season. Dearth had 28 points last season in a year where he missed a couple of games due to injury, and Talkow was third in the nation in faceoff percentage.

Meanwhile, the Terriers keep attracting top recruits to the program. After adding freshman goalie Joe McSorley, the 17th ranked incoming goalie, for the 2017, yet another top ‘tender will be joining the program.

While it’s expected, if all goes well, for McSorley to be the goalie of the future once Christian Carson-Banister graduated, the Terriers added some insurance with the addition of Matthew Garber, set to graduate in 2018 out of Staples High School in Westport, Connecticut.

While his national letter of intent is at least a year away, and we’ve seen how that can go, the addition of Garber potentially shows just how far the BU program has come in attracting top recruits.

The now-junior goalie is part of a Staples team that has recruits going to schools such as Richmond, Johns Hopkins, and Monmouth.

BU’s biggest recruit in program history might be Christopher Gray, ranked the seventh prospect in the country, who signed his NLI already. Garber would be joining a year later, where he might have time to become the future starter in net for the Terriers.
