The 77th Boston University Terrier is about to make their NHL debut.
On Wednesday morning, the Boston Bruins recalled defenseman Matt Grzelcyk from Providence of the AHL. Grzelcyk was the captain of the Terriers was last season.
The defender has one goal and 11 assists for 12 points this season with Providence over 25 games for a +12 rating. His assist total is second on the team. With the Terriers last season he posted 23 points. His career high of 38 came the season before with BU.
A Charlestown native, Grzelcyk will be inserted into the Bruins lineup to try to provide some much needed spark from the blueline. He is the third Terrier to make his NHL debut this season along with Danny O’Regan with the San Jose Sharks and AJ Greer with the Colorado Avalanche.
The 22 year old defender was a two time Hockey East first team player and was CCM all team after last year. He was the Bruins third round draft selection in the 2012 draft.
