Men’s Hockey: Seven Terriers in World Junior Championships
By: Marisa Ingemi
Seven members of the Boston University hockey team were named to World Junior Championship rosters earlier today. Freshman defender Dante Fabbro was the lone Canadian member while Team USA will host Jake Oettinger, Clayton Keller, Kieffer Bellows, Charlie McAvoy, Patrick Harper, Jordan Greenway, and Chad Krys.
Six of the Terriers named are freshmen and two are sophomores in Greenway and McAvoy, and all are NHL drafted except for Oettinger, eligible this year. Oettinger has been the Terriers starting goaltender this season and was just named Hockey East rookie of the week.
Harper, who along with Fabbro were drafted by the Nashville Predators, leads BU in scoring. Bellows, McAvoy, Krys, and Keller were all drafted this season as well by the Islanders, Bruins, Blackhawks, and Coyotes respectively.
McAvoy was also a member of Team USA last year, as was Chad Krys.
The World Junior Championships open up on December 26th from Montreal and run until January 5th. Camp runs from December 16-20 at Canisius College’s HarborCenter in Buffalo.
