Men’s Basketball: Terriers kickoff road trip at Saint Peter’s

The Boston University men’s basketball team will return to action Monday night when they travel to New Jersey to take on Saint Peter’s University.

The Terriers (4-1) are playing their first game since last Tuesday when they defeated Division III Western New England at Case Gym. The win marked the fourth in a row for BU following a season opening loss to Northeastern.

Coach Joe Jones’ squad has scored 102, 86, and 91 points in their last three games as the offense has clicked on all cylinders. The team has received contributions from their depth in the winning streak.

Saint Peter’s comes into Monday’s showdown with a 2-2 record. The Peacocks started the season off with a loss to Patriot League member Lafayette before beating Lipscomb and Fairleigh Dickinson in the Johnny Bach Classic. Their other loss was against host Fordham in the tournament.

Senior Quadir Welton leads the team with 16.3 PPG and 8.0 RPG. He was a third team All-MAAC member last season. Fellow senior Trevis Wyche averages 9.0 PPG from the guard position. Both players were named to the preseason All-MAAC team.

Sixth man Nick Griffin is second on the team in scoring with 12.8 PPG off the bench.

Saint Peter’s went 14-16 last season and returns four of five starters from that team. John Dunne is in his 11th at the helm.

Meanwhile for BU, Eric Fanning, Cedric Hankerson, and Cheddi Mosely are all averaging double figures while receiving important contributions from freshman Tyler Scanlon and Destin Barnes.

The Terriers are averaging 84.2 PPG and shooting 49% from the field, 34th best in the nation. On the other hand, Saint Peter’s is averaging just 68 PPG and shooting 41.1 %.

BU is averaging over 10 three pointers a game which will certainly be an important key in Monday’s game.

The game will also be a homecoming from Mosely who hails from Jersey City.

This is the first road game for BU since the loss at Northeastern and it will begin a three road game trip that includes power five programs Connecticut and North Carolina State later this week.

It will be pivotal for the Terriers to pick up a non-conference road win before playing two highly talented teams.

Tip-off from a “blue out” Yanitelli Center in Jersey City is scheduled for 7 pm.
